Bermuda-inspired Restaurant Weeks Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Bermuda’s distinct food culture, and the harvest heroes behind it, will be front and centre starting Thursday, when an extended version of the island’s annual Restaurant Weeks kicks off the festival’s 10th anniversary.

Stretching four weeks instead of three to mark the milestone, Restaurant Weeks 2021—January 14 through February 11—celebrates memorable culinary experiences island-wide. More than 30 participating restaurants aim to entice foodies with locavore-inspired menus and unbeatable price points for multi-course lunch and dinner meals ($22 to $52 per person). Additionally, the festival boasts “beyond the table” outdoor experiences including a lionfish culling and beekeeping tours.

“This Restaurant Weeks promises to be the most environmentally-friendly yet, at a time when sustainability is so crucial to island life,” said BTA Interim CEO, Glenn Jones. “This year’s promotion is an opportunity for our community and our visitors to uplift the very food & beverage workers on the frontline so adversely affected by the pandemic. This is also about the people behind the scenes.  Eating out and choosing local harvest over the next month supports the livelihoods of the men and women who put lobsters, lionfish, honey, produce and other local foods on our tables.”

Residents and visitors who have received a negative Day 14 COVID-19 PCR test result are invited to experience Bermuda’s sumptuous culinary scene at indoor restaurants; newer arrivals are welcome to savour island fare alfresco options, identified with an asterisk in the Restaurant Weeks Brochure.

Two signature experiences highlight this year’s festival: tickets for both are available online:

February 10: A Virtual Cooking Class with Chef Eric Adjepong, inspired by his visits to the island. The Top Chef finalist produced a sold-out Bermuda Culture & Heritage Dinner at Fourways Restaurant with local chefs Jaeleen Steede and Raven White during last year’s festival

February 11: Lobster Fete de la Crème, a four-course extravaganza staged at Bella Vista Bar & Grill, Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, as a grand finale. Seating is limited due to health & safety restrictions; advance purchase required

“Bermuda Restaurant Weeks is one of my favourite food and cultural gatherings anywhere in the world,” said Chef Eric Adjepong. “I’m always impressed by the country’s bountiful agriculture. Pair that with some of Bermuda’s amazing culinary talent, and this festival is just too good for me to miss!”

This year’s Restaurant Weeks builds on BTA efforts to shine a spotlight on Bermuda farmers, fishermen and beekeepers as heroes of the island’s food culture and traditions. In 2019, the BTA created a Bermuda Food Harvest Almanac to connect restaurateurs, grocers and consumers with locally grown foods.
