If you don’t know Bermuda, get ready for love at first bite. The food culture elevates homegrown island flavours and international twists, thanks to Bermuda’s mix of culinary influences – British, Portuguese, African, Caribbean and beyond. Vegan dining has been trending here for years.

Make it a long weekend of feel-good fun with this four-day itinerary blending island adventures, cultural discoveries and innovative dining that takes vegan food to new heights.

WHERE TO STAY

Discover a serene retreat at the Azura Bermuda boutique hotel, just 10 minutes from the City of Hamilton. Admire mesmerising ocean views from high atop a bluff overlooking the dazzling hues of the Atlantic, and let the hypnotic sound of the waves soothe your mind. In addition to a coveted stretch of South Shore beach, you’ll find nearby attractions like award-winning golf and waterfront dining.

Another option nearby is the Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa, where you can find your own personal piece of paradise. Take in views of Hamilton Harbour from your private balcony and watch the boats pass by. If you’re into history, consider staying in a three-bedroom suite where Mark Twain and Woodrow Wilson once stayed. The resort’s central island location puts you in the center of it all as every major attraction is within about 20 minutes of the resort.

Day 1

DINNER & DRINKS IN PARADISE

Settle in at the hotel before getting ready for a delicious dinner at Huckleberry, located in the historic main house of the Rosedon Hotel in downtown Hamilton. Choose from a variety of dishes that use fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and edible flowers from the property’s gardens and orchard. Mark Twain’s Southern background inspires the menu, but you can still find classic Bermudian dishes. The restaurant focuses on sourcing from local farmers and fishermen with sustainable practices, and it has implemented a healthy-living concept with its curated wine program.

After dinner, experience the low-key yet lively buzz of Bermuda’s stylish nightlife scene. People watch on Front Street at the Front Yard, where you can kick back with a cocktail and catch a live sports game. Nearby, enjoy water views from one of Hamilton’s largest patios overlooking Hamilton Harbour at The Pickled Onion. If rum drinks are your scene, find an extensive selection at the Hamilton Princess’s Crown & Anchor, a sleek, modern take on the traditional island lounge.

Day 2

BERMUDA’S NATURAL WONDERS & ON-THE-WATER FUN

Start your day with a morning stretch session led by Soul Flow Yoga with Todd Crews at the Newstead. After you’re feeling ready to take on the day, head to breakfast at Aurora. With fresh and seasonal ingredients, you’ll be able to fuel up on healthy dishes from local suppliers.

Beauty abounds in Bermuda, even underground. Marvel at larger-than-life stalagmites and other limestone formations during a 40-minute Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves Guided Tour. The crystal-clear subterranean lake at Crystal Caves adds an otherworldly dimension.

Then spend a blissful afternoon on or around the water. For pure relaxation, lounge on Bermuda’s beaches – either hidden gem Tobacco Bay Beach on the East End or world-famous pink-sand Horseshoe Bay Beach on the South Shore. Both offer great amenities, including food and drink options. For fast-paced fun, take a jet ski tour with K.S. WaterSports Adventure Tours & Rentals (tours depart from St. George’s and Southampton, among other locations). Kayak rentals are available in these areas if you prefer to explore at a slower, more peaceful pace.

After a gorgeous day outdoors, dine under the stars at the oceanfront Café Lido, located at Elbow Beach on the South Shore. The Mediterranean-inspired menu features many vegan options, including gazpacho, a hearty Earth Bowl, pasta with mushrooms and rosemary, and an organic tofu dish with creamy polenta and asparagus. Regular nighttime entertainment adds to the island vibe.

Day 3

CELEBRATE AT VEGAN FEST

Enjoy a peaceful morning eating breakfast poolside at the Azura Restaurant and Bar before heading out for a day of fun at the family-friendly Vegan Fest at Royal Naval Dockyard.

Gather with other vegan (or vegan-curious) festival-goers and indulge in all the goodness of Vegan Fest on August 25th. The fest features everything from wild-foraged and plant-based tastings to cruelty-free beauty products full of island essences. Beyond browsing the 20+ festival vendors, you can sign up for yoga and other wellness-inspired sessions. Keep the kids entertained with active fun involving bounce houses, go-karting and rock climbing.

Vegan Fest

Keep the fun going by exploring the rich maritime heritage and major historic sites surrounding you at Dockyard. See colourful murals depicting Bermuda’s storied past, fascinating shipwreck artefacts and more at the National Museum of Bermuda. Then, stroll by the cruise ship port and spend some time snorkelling with schools of fish at the Snorkel Park Beach Club – it’s an all-day beach party here with live music and refreshments.

End the day with dinner at Blû Bar and Grill on the grounds of the Belmont Hills Golf Course. While enjoying the restaurant’s thoughtfully curated vegan menu, let the sweeping views from every window complement your unforgettable meal.

Day 4

SAVOUR THE VIEWS & FLAVOURS

After a full few days, unwind with a swim at the beach or a dip at the Newstead’s pool. If you’re up for a little more exploring, head to one of Bermuda’s most popular beaches, Elbow Beach. Soak up the sun, float in the turquoise water or snorkel at one of the shipwrecks just off shore. Other options for active, wellness-inspired fun include a walk on the island’s scenic Railway Trail or an e-bike tour with Elbow Beach Cycles.

Two guys are riding bikes on the railway trail.

Finally, head to the picturesque enclave of Flatts Village for a lunch brimming with vegan delights. Order a dish full of locally grown vegetables at Village Pantry, where relationships with Bermuda’s farming community are built on trust and a mutual commitment to sustainable, natural products and practices. After lunch, snap photos of the scenic Flatts Village, tucked into the southern bank of Flatt’s Inlet. The fast-moving channel is bordered by a lush hillside dotted with pastel-coloured buildings – an idyllic Bermudian scene.

After your vegan getaway in paradise, you’ll head home feeling refreshed and fulfilled in every way.
